FinEdge
68% of users feel anxious managing their finances online.
About
When FinEdge reached out, they wanted their homepage to reflect what they stood for clarity, trust, and financial empowerment. Their old landing page felt cluttered and intimidating, making it difficult for users to understand what FinEdge offered at a glance.
I took on the challenge of redesigning their homepage with one goal in mind: to create a clean, approachable first impression that builds confidence in users exploring their finances online.
Project Overview

FinEdge is a fictional digital banking startup designed to help people take control of their money with clarity, transparency, and confidence.
Unlike traditional banks that feel cold or confusing, FinEdge aims to blend corporate credibility with modern usability, empowering users to manage finances effortlessly through a clean, responsive homepage.
FinEdge’s homepage struggled to communicate trust and clarity, two things users value most when handling finances. The old design felt heavy, text-dense, and lacked a clear visual hierarchy. Users were leaving the page without understanding what FinEdge actually offered or why they should stay.
THE CHALLENGE
Redesign the homepage to make FinEdge feel smarter, simpler, and safer. The aim was to create a modern, clean layout that quickly builds trust, highlights the app’s benefits, and guides users to take the next step — whether that’s signing up, exploring features, or learning more.

-
Communicate trust and innovation through visual design
-
Simplify the banking experience
-
Encourage sign-ups and engagement through clear CTAs
THE
GOAL
RESEARCH AND INSIGHTS
Before jumping into design, I explored how users perceive online banking apps and what builds or breaks their trust. Through quick competitive research and informal interviews with 5 users, three consistent patterns emerged:
Clarity builds confidence
Users trust platforms that use plain language, concise copy,
and visual simplicity.
Visual cues matter
Logos, colors, and iconography
heavily influence first impressions
of security and professionalism.
Overwhelming layouts
create drop-off
Too much text or unclear
calls-to-action made users
feel anxious or unsure about
signing up.
USER PERSONAS

BEFORE THE REDESIGN
The blue header bar feels
disconnected from the rest
of the design

Doesn't stand out enough due to
low contrast against the image
The icons are visually heavy
and take up too much space
The black and white image doesn't
match the headline tone
KEY ISSUES
Flat layout
Low contrast
Weak imagery
Poor navigation structure
Overbearing icons
Pain Points

-
Cluttered Interface: The homepage presented too much information at once, overwhelming users and making navigation difficult.
-
Low Visual Hierarchy: Key CTAs like “Get Started” or “Explore Features” were not immediately visible or engaging.
-
Unclear Value Proposition: Users didn’t immediately understand what FinEdge offered or how it was different from competitors.
-
Non-Responsive Design Issues: Some interface elements didn’t translate well across devices, especially mobile.
-
Cold, Corporate Feel: The overall tone felt generic, missing a sense of warmth and approachability that builds emotional connection with users.
DESIGN DIRECTION
My visual approach for FinEdge centered on trust,
simplicity, and motion, qualities that define confident,
user-friendly fintech products. I wanted the interface to feel
professional yet approachable, like a digital space users
could trust with their finances.
I explored a clean, corporate aesthetic using
cool neutrals, subtle gradients, and refined typography
to communicate stability and modernity.

USABILITY TESTING
To validate the redesigned FinEdge homepage, I conducted a small usability testing session with three participants representing our target audience of professionals seeking simplified digital banking solutions.
The goal was to observe how easily users could understand FinEdge’s value proposition, locate key information, and interact with the primary call-to-action.
Scenario
“You’ve just heard about FinEdge and want to explore its services. Visit the homepage, find out what FinEdge offers, and sign up for an account if you feel confident in the brand.”
Findings
The updated homepage tested well across both desktop and mobile. Users moved through the experience smoothly and described the new layout as clean, clear, and professional.

Feature Highlights

Personalization
-
Greeting the user by name and showing their avatar (“Welcome back, Angela”) creates an immediate sense of connection and familiarity.
-
Strong Visual Hierarchy.
Strong Visual Hierarchy
-
The typography (“SMARTER. SIMPLER. SAFER.”) instantly captures attention and communicates confidence.
-
The eye is guided naturally from the greeting → headline → CTA → card balance.

Micro-interaction Friendly UI
-
The floating navigation bar with icons is modern and ready for interaction animations.
-
The “+ new card” button subtly encourages further engagement.
Accessible Contrast & Readability
-
Text is highly legible against dark backgrounds.
-
Buttons and CTAs stand out clearly.

Clean, Intuitive Layout
-
Each section (balance, quick send, recent activity) is clearly separated with consistent spacing and card-style containers — making it easy to scan.
High-Fidelity Design
The interface uses a hybrid layout: a sleek hero section highlighting value, followed by a dashboard to build credibility and demonstrate functionality.

Typography is clear and corporate using Inter (modern and versatile) for readibility.
OUTCOME
Redesigning FinEdge allowed me to explore how thoughtful UI design can make digital banking feel more intuitive and trustworthy. Through clearer hierarchy, improved contrast, and a simplified visual flow, the homepage now creates a smoother and more confident user experience.
If I were to continue iterating on this project, I’d focus on expanding the visual system to other key screens like transactions and investments, refining micro-interactions to enhance engagement, and testing color accessibility across devices. I’d also explore how personalization like spending insights or smart alerts, could add more value to users’ everyday banking journey
